Introducing Mary’s Pence New Executive Director

We are thrilled to introduce Emily Monroe as our new Executive Director. Emily’s selection reflects our commitment to finding a leader who embodies the values and mission that have made Mary’s Pence successful. Emily is a past recipient of a Mary’s Pence grant, which gives her a unique understanding of our grant-making process and the communities we serve. Her history with our organization reinforces her deep connection to our values and vision.

She founded and led Casita Copán in rural Honduras for more than a decade, advancing child protection, women’s empowerment, and community development. Her work also includes supporting grassroots organizations through capacity building, grant writing, and strategic planning.

Emily brings invaluable experience from her recent years of work in Central America, giving her firsthand familiarity with the regions where the ESPERA Program operates.

Our leadership transition committee — composed of board members, staff, and an outside consultant — conducted a thorough vetting process, and Emily emerged as the ideal candidate to guide Mary’s Pence into its next chapter.

As Emily begins her tenure, her first priority will be connecting with the women of ESPERA in Central America and grantees in the U.S. She will spend the next few months in Central America before relocating to Minnesota with her partner and child. We have great confidence in Emily’s ability to continue Mary’s Pence legacy while bringing innovation and fresh perspectives to advance our mission.

Please join us in welcoming Emily to the Mary’s Pence community. We are excited about the future and grateful for your continued partnership as we embark on this new chapter together.

Mary’s Pence is currently in a leadership transition. Our new Executive Director, Emily, has joined the organization, and outgoing Executive Director Katherine Wojtan is supporting a short transition period to ensure continuity.
