Created to address the issue of Somali women’s underrepresentation in the public sector and in leadership roles, Women Organizing Women Network has been inspiring Somali and East African women to become engaged citizens and community leaders since 2016. They developed their own training program called the Dumar Leadership Model that is specifically designed to help participants break social and systemic barriers that prevent civic participation. Training modules include topics like mentors and mentoring, financial literacy, and networking, among others. Women Organizing Women Network’s main goal is for women to have skills to exercise the power of their voice and ensure that they are more prepared for a complex and connected world.
