Founded through a partnership with two Black obstetricians, Black Coalition for Safe Motherhood (BCFSM) was created to give Black birthing people and their supporters ownership of their maternal health experiences.
BCFSM offers the ACTT curriculum — Asking questions until you understand the answers, Claiming your space (physically and mentally), Trusting your body, and Telling your story — through which nurses, obstetricians, midwives, doulas, and anyone in the community can collaborate to provide a comprehensive healthcare advocacy toolkit. This toolkit helps improve pregnancy, birth, and post-birth outcomes for Black families.
BCFSM also trains ACTT Workshop Facilitators nationwide, equipping them to deliver ACTT learning in formats that best serve their communities, either in person or virtually.
