Cleveland, Ohio
The Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies project of the Collinwood Neighborhood Catholic Ministries (CNCM) was created in the wake of high malnutrition-related infant mortality rates in the state of Ohio. In 2014, infant mortality records in Collinwood were nearly double the national average. With their first Mary’s Pence grant since 2011, CNCM will start a community garden, and offer nutrition and sustainable agriculture classes, as well as a support group for pregnant women and new mothers. Participants and volunteer helpers together will maintain the garden, harvest produce, and design individualized sustainable nutrition plans.
