Heart of Courage works side by side with mothers who have lost temporary custody of their children due to addiction, incarceration, domestic violence, mental health issues, and homelessness. According to a professor at the University of Texas Austin, research is showing that 40% of the mothers who have a Children’s Protective Services (CPS) case were once in CPS as a child. Heart of Courage wants to help break those generational cycles by using a human-centric approach that involves collaborative partnerships and first-hand experience.
Heart of Courage offers support for mothers to overcome situational adversity with personal responsibility, self-worth, and courage. The goal is self-sufficiency, sound mental and emotional health, and breaking multi-generational cycles of family separation for reasons that can eliminated with additional support, education, and advocacy. This benefits not only the mother but helps the children and starts a new, positive generational cycle.
