Kind Hearted Women’s Society (Cante Waunsilpi Wi Ta Ominiciye – Lakota name)

Kind-Hearted Women Society (Cante Waunsilpi Wi Ta Ominiciye) is an Indigenous-led nonprofit dedicated to revitalizing Lakota cultural practices, empowering Native women and girls, and fostering long-term systemic change.

Rooted in the Lakota values of respect (Wóohola), cultural revitalization (Lakȟól’iyapi), healing (Wówaŋyaŋg Wicákȟ’e), empowerment (Wichóni), and community (Tiospaye), Kind Hearted Women Society provides a safe, culturally connected space for young Indigenous women to heal, grow, and lead. Traditional practices such as regalia making, storytelling, sacred ceremonies are blended with modern advocacy and leadership opportunities, such as raising awareness of Missing Murdered Indigenous Women, in order to inspire self-determination and resilience.

Mary’s Pence grant will support Kind Hearted Women Society members’ participation in the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues 24th forum held on April 21 – May 2, 2025, dates that coincide with the National Week of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (April 29 to May 5).
