Born from their shared vision and fueled by a desire for a brighter future for their children with disabilities, six mothers came together in June 2018 with a simple yet powerful belief: that every individual deserves quality educational experiences and support, regardless of ability.
Missouri Disability Empowerment Foundation wants to see IEP (Individualized Education Plans) and 504 teams collaborating and students making meaningful progress in light of their unique circumstances. It provides funds to train special education advocates and funds opportunities for families seeking professional services of a paid advocate or attorney.
It also spreads information about special education and seeks to empower families to advocate for themselves or a loved one. By advocating for inclusive education statewide, providing opportunities for caregivers to learn about special education in ways that are apply to their own situation, working towards systemic change, and encouraging families to form relationships with community members, Missouri Disability Empowerment is working to ensure all students will be getting the services they require to make progress in their education.
