Parents Organizing for Welfare and Economic Rights (POWER) is a community of low-income parents and allies advocating for a strong social safety net. They work toward a world where children and caregiving are truly valued, and poverty is eradicated.
POWER’s core values include self-determination, intentional and strategic action, solidarity, social justice, and centering women’s experiences and needs. They are committed to honoring children and mothering while advancing anti-oppression in all aspects of their work.
POWER programs and initiatives are grounded in the framework of reproductive justice, which recognizes that individuals are part of larger families and communities. Using this approach, POWER strengthens entire communities to support individual well-being.
With funding from this grant, POWER will expand its skill-building workshops, including Know Your Rights, advocacy skills and tools, poverty awareness, and economic empowerment workshops. These workshops are designed for low-income parents, professionals who work with low-income families, and the general public.
