The WomanHOOD Project (HOOD: Helping Ourselves Overcome Discrimination) is an after school mentorship program for girls, femmes, and trans/gender nonconforming (TGNC) youth of color in the Bronx. Their mission is to celebrate womanhood through a racial and gender justice lens by building the next generation of grassroots leaders. This means equipping a generation of young people of color with the knowledge to name and combat their oppression and the systems that uphold the subjugation of their communities. The WomandHOOD Project works to build a community that is representative of the vast experiences and identities of young people of color from marginalized genders, as well as increase access to feminist education and create a safe space for learning, growing, and community building for Bronx youth of color.
